Seed: Objects of wonder: artist's book

SEED: objects of wonder journal is a mixed media journal of art and writing, devised and curated by writers Felicia Olusanya and Grace Wilentz, and designed and created by me.

As book artist for this project, I developed the concept for the book structure, design and layout, carefully creating a beautiful receptacle for the 12 individual artworks.

For the first edition, I designed and handbound an edition of 40 Accordion Envelope books, as well as designing, laying out and printing the artworks contained within. I worked closely with the Seed collective whose feedback helped shape this artist’s book.

This journal contains responses to the theme of ‘ancestors’. This broad theme attracted work that looks at how younger artists are interpreting, protecting and transforming traditions of the past, while stepping into the role of ‘ancestors in training’ for future generations.

Contributors include: Andeso, Bailey Barbour, Farah Elle, Mercy Fulani, Fatima Halawa, Malika Iskander, Claudia Hoareau, Vanessa Rae, Risada, DJ Tara Stewart, Brian Teeling, Gabriela Concha Valcárcel.

The SEED collective is made up of artists and activists aiming to rethink ways of curating and communicating, and expanding the imaginative potential of what a journal can be.

Seed collective members include: Felicia Olusanya, Grace Wilentz, Diana Bamimeke, Natasha Doyle-Merrick, Farah Elle, Deji Gbede, Rima Hamid, Claudia Hoareau, Diane Ihirwe, Najet Kadri, Soraya Sobrevía.
