Poetic Prints Calligraphy

Poetic Prints is a literary-themed show with ‘Poetic Prints’ inspired by the works of Irish writers such as W. B. Yeats, James Joyce, Seamus Heaney, Oscar Wilde.

I was invited to write calligraphy which would complement the theme of the exhibition. The main quote used – Players and painted stage took all of my thought and love, and not those things they were emblems of – is a quote from Yeats’ poem The Circus Animals’ Desertion.

As always with calligraphy, the main portion of my time was spent laying out the text using pencil and ruler. Once I had the scale and leading of the font correct, I used a thick 45mm calligraphy marker to write the text. It was quite a different experience writing in large on a wall!

This exhibition was held in the Graphic Studio Gallery, Dublin from June 4th – 27th, to coincide with Bloomsday and Yeats 2015.
