Outlander artist’s book

This book was a surprise present for somebody who really loves the book ‘Outlander‘ by Diana Gabaldon. I was asked to make an artistic interpretation of this novel, somehow capturing the atmosphere of it. The story, if you haven’t read it, revolves around time-traveller Claire Randall, who gets whisked back in time to 1743 when gathering plants near standing stones on the hill of Craigh na Dun, Scotland.

I decided to make an origami star book – its has very 3D structure which pops open with different panels back and front to work on. On one side of the book, I have taken quotes from the book based on both of the main characters – Claire and Jamie – building up to when they become as couple, in the central panel of the book… Some steamy quotes in that section! On the other side of the book, I painted 4 scenes from the novel, again based on the arc of the plotline.

I covered the book in handmade paste paper using the same colours from Jamie’s family’s tartan. I had a lot of fun making this book! This handmade artist’s book measures 12 x 12 x 3 cms.
